Does brain training actually work?
Game results describe performance on the task you practise. Research about broader transfer has differing findings, and improved scores alone do not establish an increase in IQ or everyday memory. Our game pages and research guide link the background sources.
Is Dual N-Back legit?
Dual n-back is used in working-memory research. HumanCalc adapts the matching task for browser play; our implementation is not a validated intelligence test or a guarantee of broader cognitive improvement.
How long until I see results?
There is no guaranteed timeline. Compare your accuracy and completed rounds at the same settings across repeated sessions. We do not have verified player data supporting a promised number of levels gained per week.
How long should a session be?
Try one short round, or use our five-minute mental math routine. Adjust the length to your attention and schedule. This is a suggested practice format, not a published research protocol or a validated training dose.
Is HumanCalc free?
Yes — all 13 games are free to play, permanently. No subscription, no trial, no paywalled levels. Signed-in players can optionally buy coin packs; coins only unlock cosmetics and streak recovery, and never add XP or change a ranking.
Do I need an account?
Eight games are open without an account: Dual N-Back, Flash Anzan, Mental Arithmetic, Serial Addition, Reaction Time, Stroop Test, Odd One Out and Make 24. A free account unlocks Math Chain, Missing Operator, Flash Recall, Time Sense and Blink and Add, plus saved progress, XP, streaks and the leaderboard.
How often does the leaderboard reset?
Every week, on Monday. Each season rewards regular practice while giving everyone a fresh start.
Which game should I start with?
Dual N-Back if you want a demanding working-memory task. Flash Anzan for visual mental calculation, or Stroop Test for fast attention control.
Can I use this on my phone?
The games support mobile browsers. Device, display, input and browser delays affect timing results, so compare Reaction Time attempts using the same setup. Enable sound for audio-based games.
Is this a medical or diagnostic test?
No. Several games follow clinical task designs closely, but this is a training site. A score here carries no clinical meaning.
